From Ottoman Turkish کرگدن (kergeden), from Persian کرگدن (karkadan), from Sanskrit खड्गधेनु (khaḍgadhenu, “female rhinoceros”), which is the feminine form of खड्ग (khaḍga, “horn, sword”).[1]
