    Etymology

From Proto-Germanic *wajjuz, from Proto-Indo-European *wehβy- (βto turn; wind; bendβ). Akin to Swedish vΓ€gg, Old English wΗ£Δ‘.
Usage notes

The grammatical gender is uncertain; based on its derivates it could be either masculine or feminine. Proto-Germanic *wajjuz suggests masculine, however.
