Inherited from Early Assamese ঘাৱ (ghawo), from Sanskrit ঘাত (ghāta, “killing”). Cognate to Bengali ঘা, Chakma 𑄊 (ghā), Rohingya gáa, Gujarati ઘા (ghā), Odia ଘାଉ (ghau).
