spillonga
Sicilian

- spillunga

Etymology

Uncertain. Maybe variation of an earliest form spirlonga so that it can possibly come from Latin ex + perlongus (“very long, which lasts a long time”). Alternatively from a variation of Latin bis + longus (“long twice”). Compare Italian spilungone, Spanish pilongo, Portuguese pilungo.
