    Etymology
    
From Proto-Balto-Slavic *śwaitī́ˀtei, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱweyt-. Morphologically from Proto-Slavic *světъ (“world”) + *-iti. Cognate with Lithuanian švaitýti (according to Snoj: both are of secondary origin).
