Etymology

From the stem vowel *-ā/ə- + Proto-Indo-European *-bʰorā, an ablaut of *bʰer-, whence բերեմ (berem). Later the stem vowel was interpreted as the interfix -ա- (-a-) and the suffix was applied to other stems.
