From Sanskrit दिव्य (divya, “agreeable; celestial; magical; etc”); possibly via Old Khmer dibya (“celestial, divine; magical, supernatural; excellent, magnificent; etc”). Compare Pali dibba, from which Thai ทิพ (típ) is derived. Cognate with Modern Khmer ទិព្វ (tɨp).
