Etymology

From মুর্শিদ (murśid, “guide”), which is ultimately from Arabic مُرْشِد‎ (muršid), + আবাদ (abad, suffix denoting an inhabited area), from Classical Persian ‎ (ābād). Named after the first Nawab of Bengal Murshid Quli Khan.
