Etymology
    
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *wákti, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *wákti, from Proto-Indo-European *wékʷ-ti, from *wekʷ- (“to speak”). Cognate with Russian вякать (vjakatʹ), Latin vōx, Old Irish focul.
