Inherited from Old Marathi दिवा (divā), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀤𑀻𑀯 (dīva) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit दीप (dīpa). Cognate to Gujarati દીવો (dīvo), Hindi दिया (diyā), Punjabi ਦੀਵਾ (dīvā), Nepali दियो (diyo).
