Etymology 1
    
From Proto-Indo-European *h₁ŕ̥kʷs, from *h₁erkʷ- (“to praise”). Cognate with Old Armenian երգ (erg, “song”), Tocharian A yärk, Tocharian B yarke (“worship, veneration”).
