הִפִּיל • (hipíl) third-singular masculine past (hif'il construction, passive counterpart הופל / הֻפַּל‎)

9. (colloquial) to impose upon someone

• When someone has accidentally dropped something by losing his or her grip on it, it is more common to use נָפַל לְ־‎ (nafál l'-, “to fall for”) rather than הִפִּיל (hipíl). In that case, the subject denotes the dropped item, and is usually postponed:

  ‏נפל לי העיפרון.‎‎ ― nafál lí ha'iparón. ― I dropped the pencil; [literally] Fell to-me the-pencil.
