הֶעֱלָה • (he'elá) third-singular masculine past (hif'il construction) (transitive)

1. to raise, lift
   • Tanach, Genesis 37:28, with translation of the King James Version:

     וַיִּמְשְׁכוּ וַיַּעֲלוּ אֶת יוֹסֵף מִן הַבּוֹר

     vayimsh'chú vaya'alú et yoséf min habór

     and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit

2. to bring from a low place to a high place

     And this halacha decides, that it is forbidden for a sick person who is not in danger to go to a doctor like this [who desecrates the Sabbath] on the day of the holy Sabbath.
