Old Armenian

    Etymology

The origin is uncertain.[1][2] Perhaps ultimately from Akkadian [script needed] (ḫiṣṣu, “rubble, gravel”),[3] a cognate of Arabic حَصًى (ḥaṣan), via an unattested Iranian language to account for the ճ (č).[4]
