Learned borrowing from Ancient Greek σύνοψις (súnopsis, “general view”) (Hellenistic sense: "epitome") σύνοψ(ις) + modern ending -ση (-si).[1] By surface analysis, συν- (syn-) + όψη (ópsi) from the ancient σύν (sún) + ὄψῐς (ópsis, “view”).
